Decline the Officer's request that you take the Preliminary Alcohol Screening Test (PAS). The Officer will usually try to trick you into thinking you have to take it; you do not, and it does not count as one of the tests you do have to take, those are down at the police station. The goal here to avoid dui is to not give the officer any "extra evidence," which is all he is looking for by trying to get you to take the PAS test in the first place.
Do not take the Field Sobriety Tests. They are completely voluntary, no matter what the officer may try to tell you. Many Officers attempt to trick you by saying if you pass, you will be let go; which almost never happens. The officer himself probably wouldn't pass those same tests he/she is administering to you! You are better off not giving them evidence that they can use against you later in court. And believe us they will exaggerate the results and document them on the police report to make you look very drunk. Politely decline to do the Field Sobriety Exercises, this is another step that can help you avoid dui.
Politely refuse to answer any of the Officer's questions concerning the DUI investigation, either before or after the arrest. That way, there won't be any statements that can be used against you in court.
Always be on your best behavior. Some areas video tape parts of the dui process like when they pull you over, when they try to give you the breath test, etc... Especially down at the police station..
The whole process is designed to prove you were drunk by taking every opportunity to collect "evidence" that WILL be used against you.
