DUI Laws Getting Tougher?
It seems as if more and more regular people AND celebrity’s are getting charged with DUI these days. Does this mean that DUI laws are getting tougher, or does it mean more people are suddenly deciding to drive drunk? I think organizations like MADD would have you believe that the laws NEED to be tougher because more and more people are driving drunk, when in reality it’s the opposite.
The DUI laws are now so stringent due to political pressures and legislative efforts that more and more ‘regular’ people (and celebrity’s) are getting tagged with DUI. The fact is that DUI is such a hot topic that keeps getting hotter. The sad part is that vehicular deaths on our nations roadways continue to increase EVEN WITH these supposedly ‘justified’ strict DUI laws.
Why would vehicular deaths, and serious injuries on our nations roadway’s continue to rise if we’ve been ever so vigilant in ‘cracking down’ on DUI laws? The answer to that is simple… lowering the BAC limit below .10% has no effect on deaths and serious injuries because all your doing is increasing revenue by throwing ’social drinkers’ into the mix.
The people causing the problems are at a BAC of way over .10% in fact most are double the legal limit of .08%. But MADD and the politics surrounding DUI laws won’t quit pushing for lower laws because the increased revenue goes straight into their pockets. Even though deaths and serious injuries remain high… they will push for the money rather than the safety.
